Dr. Heaton
Dr. Benjamin Heaton grew up in Northern Utah/Southern Idaho moving around every few years until his parents decided to settle in Cache Valley, where he became a “Son of a Baker” in 1991 with the establishment of the family business. His employment at the bakery came to an abrupt end on three separate occasions when he was fired by the CEO, AKA Dad. Unfortunately, Dr. Heaton was always hired back even when he didn’t want to be. He learned patience, resiliency, and discipline.
As a teenager, Dr. Heaton’s father would share words of encouragement often telling him how he was “so damn smart” and how he “always knew everything”. Taking his father’s words of encouragement to heart he headed off to college in pursuit of becoming a doctor.
After completing his bachelor’s degree, he joined the Air Force and moved his young family to Bethesda, Maryland to attend medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. After completing his internship year in General Surgery, he spent the next seven as a Flight Surgeon taking care of Air Force pilots and their family members. His assignments took him to Japan, Guam, Singapore, Thailand, Greece, UAE, Oman, and various duty stations across the United States.
In 2015 he secured an assignment at Hill AFB and returned to Utah with his wife and four children. Following his Air Force assignment he finished his residency training at the University of Utah where he obtained a Master’s of Occupation Health. Dr. Heaton currently holds two board certifications in preventative medicine, Occupational and Environmental Medicine and Aerospace Medicine.
Prior to working in private practice he spent three years as the Medical Director of a university student health center. Currently, he serves the community as the Medical Director at a local correctional facility.
